Week 9 - Task 2 Short story Presentation

This was my presentation for that week, but i was ill, so instead i asked through facebook what people thought about my ideas and asked for some ideas. I got feedback on the dancer idea, to take the audience on a journey through her dancing. So i decided to add her telling the story of how she became a dancer in the background. But i didn't want to take away from her dancing, so i have her at parts stop dancing so the story can play.

Animatics to sound

https://vimeo.com/113598621 - Bethany, Emily and I worked together to create an animatics to sound. This is mine and Bethany's parts, we tested it to the sound to see if it would work properly.

We thought that the different sounds would work well in a cafe/ restaurant environment, so we have done it from the point of view of a waiter who is walking around seeing the different things.

Week 8- Sketches

Week 9

These are some quick sketches i did, in 30 seconds, which was hard to try and get the shape down, that's why a lot are mostly done.

The i spent longer on them (5 minute) adding shading and slight detail.

Task 2 - Lip Sync - intial ideas

https://vimeo.com/113603260 - This is the soundtrack i am using for my final piece.

https://vimeo.com/113607564 - Test video of what the animation will look like.

https://vimeo.com/113603259 - I changed the idea of what it would look like the next day. I thought if i added a table it would be more believable.

Week 8 - Introduction to lip syncing (body language and performance)

There is more to lip-syncing than mouth shapes, the performance of you character needs to convey what they are saying.

 Screening:
Creature Comforts is a franchise originating in a 1989 British humorous animated short film of the same name. The film describes how animals feel about living in a zoo, featuring the voices of the British public "spoken" by the animals. It was created by Nick Park and Aardman Animations. The film later became the basis of a series of television advertisements for the UK Electricity Board, and in 2003 a television series in the same style was released. An American version of the series was also made.

11 Second Club: Look at peoples post on their blogs.
Cocoon of Horror, Emily’s favourite: http://www.11secondclub.com/competitions/november09/winner

About your final piece:
·         How long should it be? 3 – 4 seconds
·         Choose a sound track edit it in premiere if needed, and export it.
  • Design a simple character (unless using Maya rig)
  • Block it out (key frame and put in time with sound)
  • Animate

Task 1: Using only the body language with head movement animate a character using one of the sound tracks in the sound file folder on Wolf. Record your performances on your phones or friends) several times before you begin to animate. You can use which ever form of animation you like. Do not animate the mouth yet! From your video footage you will need to make notes on key parts of the performance and draw thumbnail sketches to work from

Homework: Find or create a sound file for your final lip sync piece. This is a good website to get your final sound files from: http://www.moviewavs.com/Movies.html

3 story ideas - initial ideas

Week 8 - Daption, working with found resources

If you are struggling for an idea you could turn to the written word for inspiration. Poems and speeches, but a more obvious example to refer to would be folktales. Famously there are classic animated films such as: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast.

Forgetfulness by Billy Collins: https://vimeo.com/38356
Julian Grey is a Canadian based animator(headgear), he was comissioned by JWT entertainment in 2005.
Made in collaboration with popular Poet Billy Coliins, Julians film explores the the effects of fading memeory and middle age, told in a wimsical and evocative way.
This film only took 5 weeks to animate!
“We wanted the sound to be scratchy, like it was being received through an old telephone handset, to suggestand anecdotal, distant nature of the poem”. Julian.

THE DEAD, by Billy Collins who is a former, US Poet Laureate and one of America's best-selling poets, reads his poem "The Dead" with animation by Juan Delcan. Produced at Nola Pictures / Agency JWT New York / Commissioned by The Sundance Channel. https://vimeo.com/23220281

To This Day is a project based on a spoken word poem written by Shane Koyczan (shanekoyczan.com) called “To This Day”, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual. Animators and motion artists brought their unique styles to 20 second segments that will thread into one fluid voice. This collaborative volunteer effort demonstrates what a community of caring individuals are capable of when they come together https://vimeo.com/59956490

Task: Find a poem/sound recording/speech/script/short story/ Quote… something that really inspires you!!! Take that piece of inspiration and make a storyboard of it. Be experimental with the materials you use.

Week 9 - homework - Storyboard of a poem

Do Less - Unknown

Wise words for when we are caught up in doing more ...

Do less thinking
And pay more attention to your heart
Do less aquiring
And pay more attention to what you already have

Do less complaining
And pay more attention to giving
Do less controlling
And pay more attention to letting go

Do less criticizing
And pay more attention to complimenting
Do less arguing
And pay more attention to forgiveness

Do less running around
And pay more attention to stillness
Do less talking
And pay attention to silence

I liked this poem because of what it was saying. It is right sometimes we do have to do less of things of pay more attention to other things we ignore because of how busy we are.

It was a struggle at first to find a poem that i could relate to or get inspired by, but when i found this poem it was easy to imagine what i would do.
