Week 8 - Daption, working with found resources

If you are struggling for an idea you could turn to the written word for inspiration. Poems and speeches, but a more obvious example to refer to would be folktales. Famously there are classic animated films such as: Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast.

Forgetfulness by Billy Collins: https://vimeo.com/38356
Julian Grey is a Canadian based animator(headgear), he was comissioned by JWT entertainment in 2005.
Made in collaboration with popular Poet Billy Coliins, Julians film explores the the effects of fading memeory and middle age, told in a wimsical and evocative way.
This film only took 5 weeks to animate!
“We wanted the sound to be scratchy, like it was being received through an old telephone handset, to suggestand anecdotal, distant nature of the poem”. Julian.

THE DEAD, by Billy Collins who is a former, US Poet Laureate and one of America's best-selling poets, reads his poem "The Dead" with animation by Juan Delcan. Produced at Nola Pictures / Agency JWT New York / Commissioned by The Sundance Channel. https://vimeo.com/23220281

To This Day is a project based on a spoken word poem written by Shane Koyczan (shanekoyczan.com) called “To This Day”, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual. Animators and motion artists brought their unique styles to 20 second segments that will thread into one fluid voice. This collaborative volunteer effort demonstrates what a community of caring individuals are capable of when they come together https://vimeo.com/59956490

Task: Find a poem/sound recording/speech/script/short story/ Quote… something that really inspires you!!! Take that piece of inspiration and make a storyboard of it. Be experimental with the materials you use.
