Character Develpoment - Production Pipeline

This week we discussed the production pipeline.

The definition of workflow is what you own personal process is. The order you work in and only you. This is specifically designed for you and so you can try different out different orders of workflow.

The definition of pipeline is a industry workflow. Certain things have to happen in a certain order otherwise people can't do their jobs.

To help us understand this we watched a documentary on Gollum a character from Lord of the Rings and we took notes on every time it changed to a different stage in the production. There were many stages and sometimes they had to go back and redo a stage when something changed so then the pipeline can carry on. We managed to count around 40 times that the stages changed and it helped me to understand how the structure worked and without all the different production aspects working together they wouldn't of created the character we see today.

As animators and designers, it is easy to get lost in the technicalities of it all and lost the essence of the character, so it is something to take note of.

Gollum is ‘a nice guy who got addicted to a ring and become schizophrenic’.

After looking at thinsentence we were asked if we could write a sentence that best captures the essence and personality of our character.

Molly is a shy young woman who uses her books to escape from the reality of the real world and go on adventures.
