3D Production - Week 1 - Module Introduction

This week we were introduced to what we would have to do in this module. We need to create 30 secs of animation including a lip sync, model a character and research, develop and reflect on what we have done.

We started off by talking about divergent and Convergent thinking.

Divergent thinking is a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions.
Convergent thinking: Putting you own creative work in context, understanding how your workflow, thoughts, design rules and technical procedures relate to industry standards.

We have to think about our own workflow and how we generate idea and the process we use.

Examples:

Character Animator:  Cesc Pujol Font’s

We should look at people in the industry as we can see the level of work they are producing and aim for it.

Helpful book and Websites:
www.howtocheatinmaya.com Download user files here including character rigs

Various Animation teaching channels, these are really helpful:

‘Creating is about observation, research and development, the final work remains shallow if we neglect to the first stages’.

Understanding the basic workflow:

OPRAA -(Observe, plan, record, adapt and animate)

To create a believable scene and character we have to use the above to make sure we have everything in place before. This will make our animation better and more realistic.

Test to see what we remember:

These were hard for me at first but as i got into it i found using Maya okay.

Ball Bounce 1 - Done in the lesson.

Ball Bounce 2 - Redone to fix the ending as the timing was off and it was too slow. It did not look like a Ball Bounce.

Pendulum Swing - I feel it is a bit slow and I just needed to make it less frames but unfortunately the document would not open and I could not do this.
