Character Development - Week 4 - Final Characters

Character 1 - Molly :
At age 20 she doesn’t party or socialise, she sits in her room or library as she likes to call it, with books stacked up everywhere in every nook and cranny. The smell of leather and new paper fills the air as Molly turns the pages in her book. She gently moves a clump of hair back into her messy bun, never taking her eyes off the words, like the story would change if she were to look away. Captivated by the book, she becomes the lead character, a detective, once again becoming part of the story that she loves to read.

Inspiration:

My idea for Molly came from looking at People of New York, i was looking through and found the picture and quote below. I could picture the character straight away. How she would be a young girl who read books and would be so taken in by the stories she became the characters she was reading.

“I’ve fallen in love with literature. I try to read for one or two hours every day. I only have one life to live. But in books I can live one thousand lives.”

(Rasht, Iran)

I knew i wanted her to look simple so she could easily change and take on the character from a book. I feel if she was too complicated she wouldn't be able to take on another character.

Initial sketches:

I started off by sketching faces and hair styles and changing the shapes of the heads. The face i chose is simple but still shows that she is female and is 20 years old.

I then sketched different bodies and and faces to see how changing proportions would look.

I took the face that i liked the best and the drew different head shapes to see which one would look the best with the face.

My final character design:

Character 2 - Liv

She's not one to run her company from her high tech, fancy office. Liv is the brains of the operation and gets stuck in. People sometimes misinterpret her confident, sarcastic manner for being too cocky, and maybe she is, but she doesn't care what anyone thinks. She has worked damn hard to get to where she is.

Inspiration:
I was inspired by my top three characters when i created Liv. I wanted her to be cocky, sarcastic and confident but very intelligent and self made. Similar to Tony Stark and Rocket Raccoon. I then wanted her to be like Terk also and so i made her female but 'one of the guys', going against gender stereotypes. A lot of people perceive powerful women to be 'Bitches' but a powerful man is normal and so i wanted to create a character that is a powerful and just does not care what people think of her she is not a so called 'Bitch' she deserves what she has as she has worked hard for it.

There are sarcastic, cocky, self made and intelligent

She is 'one of the guy's and goes against the gender stereotypes

Sketches of different body proportions:

My final character design:

I felt that with her personality she would have sharp feature and a black pointy bob. She is a powerful woman and I wanted her to have a tall model like body with tiny waste with sharp edges.
