Innovative - Presentation of my Animations 50%

Week 1 - Blu

Group - Emily, Bethany and I

For this animation we chose to use parts of the classroom to do our animation on and draw inspiration from, we did this as Blu used his surroundings in his animations. We decided to add bits of 3D and the different sound affects for each part of the animation again similar to Blu's style of work.

Our group worked well as a team and we all contributed to the animation. I helped take pictures for different parts of the animation, animating the balloon and drawing the box at the beginning. For the sound we each took turns looking for sound affects we thought would work well and the we chose the best ones.

If i were to do it again i would add more inbetweens as some of it jumps because of not having enough and we had to edit it down because it was way too long, so i think it is a little fast, so next time i would make sure what we wanted to do was short/ long enough first so we do not have to cut anything out again.

Week 2 - Lotte Reiniger

Group - Emily, Bethany and I
I liked this animation a lot, I think the use of silhouettes was very effective at getting across the creepy atmosphere we wanted because of the contrast of light and dark. We chose to use a part of the play 'Peter and the Wolf'. We chose to use the part where the wolf is eating the sheep, but we decided to change it slightly so the wolf would stalk the sheep then disguise himself as one so he could eat the sheep.
Our group split the cutting out and all of the animating and editing equally. I cute the trees, bushes and grass out. Then i helped animate the part where the wolf disguised himself and ate the sheep and i also helped take the pictures. We then looked at what kind of sound Lotte used in her animations and tried to find something similar that would effective with our animation.

Overall I think the animation looks really good and if we were to ever to do it again we have a better understanding of how to make the parts that move more secure.

Week 3 - Yuri Norstein

Group - Emily, Bethany and I

For this weeks animation we took in inspiration from ' Hedgehog in the Fog' and looked at the scene where the Hedgehog is being scared by different things because of how foggy it is. We were asked to focus on the fog and try and recreate something similar so we thought this scene would good for doing this. So we chose to have a mouse who was walking through a meadow and it becomes more and more foggy, a fox jumps out and then a bat swoops down. The creatures were painted and drawn onto acetate so they stood out and would be easier to move. We then have multiple plains (background, fog, mouse, fox). The hardest part of the animation was getting everything in the right position and moving parts when they were on different levels.

To create the fog we decided that it would look the best to have it on acetate in the background and then just paint in on the plastic while we took pictures. I feel that we have create the fog well.

Overall the group worked well and we split everything equally. I painted the background, grass and some of the fog. I also helped animate the bat and took pictures. For the sound we looked for orchestral music as we felt that would fit the scene and help with conveying the creepy atmosphere we were going for.

This animation i liked the least at the time. I think the animation was good but having all the different layers and trying to move them at the same time was hard.

Week 4 - Osbert Parker

Group - Julia, Raj and I

Although we had to cut out a lot of little pieces for this animation i enjoyed it a lot. Our group worked well as a team and as we cut out the pieces and looked around the classroom we came up with the idea. We were given a lady and a bird as ideas and chose to have the lady climb up the headphones walk down them and jump off, she then turns into a bird and fly's away.We used the headphones and the screen as that is similar to what Osbert does in his animations.

We each helped to cut of the pieces (I cut out some of the bird and some of the lady) and then i stuck the pieces where they needed to be, while Raj and Julia told me if they looked okay through the camera and took the pictures.

Week 5 - Meghana Bisineer

Group - Emily, Bethany, Gin and I

For this week we had a chose and were put into groups according to the chose. We chose to use charcoal on the phone book. We took inspiration from Meghana's 'Dog' animation where she did a similar thing. We noticed that she used a lot of nature scenes in her work and so we decided to do this in our animation. A man would walk through the forest then fly off, once it was off the page a bird would swoop back down.

We kept our idea simple for this animation because we chose to do it on one page and so just draw over the top, if we had had too much on the page it would of looked messy. I drew the man walking and flying off in the first part and helped with a little bit of the bird. As a group we worked well together and everything was equally shared.
I like the phone book idea and thought it was different and I would try it again.

Out of all the animations my favourites were Blu, Lotte Reiniger and Osbert Parker and i feel that all together these animations could work well. I want to use these for my final animation.
